‘The energy transition is happening now’
Our mission is clear: 100% green energy in the Netherlands, as soon as possible. We can only achieve this if we also make energy smarter: simpler, more accessible, and more affordable for everyone. And that’s exactly what we at Vandebron work toward every day. In this article, Marloes Dobbe looks back on her first year as Commercial Director.
When I joined Vandebron a year ago, I wanted one thing above all else: an organization where real, positive change is happening. And in the energy sector, that change is happening right now. The market is different than it was a few years ago. Almost all providers now offer green electricity. Our mission remains the same: 100% green energy, as soon as possible. To make that a reality, it’s important that we reorganize ourselves so that we can truly help people navigate the energy transition.
We need to reinvent ourselves And that means we need to reinvent ourselves. That’s why we’re developing a strategy for the next five years. At first, our focus was on producing green energy; going forward, it will be about using it more intelligently. After all, there’s plenty of sun and wind, but not always when you turn on your kettle. So we need to make sure we store energy smartly—and use it smartly: at the right times.
Our target audience has also changed. Whereas we previously focused on the “dark green audience” (people who live very consciously in a sustainable way), we now also focus on the “light green audience.” These are people who value green energy but for whom becoming more sustainable shouldn’t take too much time, effort, or money. By broadening our target audience, we can reach more people and thereby accelerate the energy transition.
A lot is happening all at once Our mission isn’t just a slogan on our website. It’s truly in our DNA. You can see that in our strategic decisions, the way we work, but above all in our people. We’re in the midst of an intensive year of transformation and a major technical migration. A lot is happening all at once. But communication lines remain short; we work well together and tackle things quickly. We continue to innovate.
Contributing to the transition A good example is our Customer First strategy. It allows us to help customers more quickly. But more importantly, through our app, we also give them immediate tools to lower their energy bills. By giving customers insight into their usage and showing them which appliances in their homes consume the most energy, we help them make save money. And lower consumption means less strain on the grid. In this way, customers are directly contributing to the transition.
Solving problems right away To implement innovations quickly, we’ve introduced a new way of working: Team of Five. As soon as our colleagues in Customer Service notice that customers are running into an issue, we put together a small team with people from different fields -such as Data & Analytics, Product, Customer Experience, and Customer Service. Team of Five doesn’t get bogged down in slow processes or lengthy meetings. Our approach is to solve problems right away by looking at them from different angles. That’s contagious—it really gets me excited. We’re laying the groundwork now so we can grow starting next year. Here, you’ll have the chance to make a difference every day.
