Job description

Who we are

At Vandebron, we're transforming the energy landscape, steering away from the conventional to champion sustainability. Born in 2014, our journey began with Chapter 1, disrupting the market with a transparent platform connecting consumers directly to local, green energy producers.

Now, in Chapter 2, we are dedicated to ensuring 100% green energy availability, 100% of the time. Think smart solutions — flexible use of wind and solar farms, Smart EV Charging, and efficient energy storage. No waiting around, we actively shape a sustainable future.

Good energy, smart solutions — that's Vandebron.

Your impact

As Risk Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that Vandebron grows responsibly and sustainably. You’ll be the go-to person for all things related to risk — from maintaining and improving our risk management framework to advising on strategic projects and regulatory obligations.

Your work touches every part of the organization: from Finance and IT to Operations and Commercial. With your expertise, you help colleagues understand the potential risks of their choices and guide them toward well-informed, balanced decisions.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the entire risk management function — shaping, expanding, and embedding it further into the business. You’ll have a high level of autonomy while working closely with leadership to keep Vandebron resilient in a fast-changing energy market.

You’ll be part of the Legal, Risk & Compliance (LERCO) team and reporting to Elma Gazibegovic, Manager Legal & Compliance. “This is a close-knit and driven team — and also a really fun one,” says Elma.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain and further implement Vandebron’s risk management framework.

  • Raise awareness about risk management across all departments.

  • Prepare and present the quarterly LERCO risk report, reporting on Vandebron’s risk appetite and several risk categories.

  • Provide proactive input on risk and mitigation strategies for projects, incidents, and business decisions.

  • Take ownership of business resilience, including incident processes and crisis management.

  • Conduct risk analyses across various topics to strengthen business operations.

  • Implement and monitor risk management obligations from regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as point of contact for risk management colleagues at Essent/E.ON (our parent companies), handling their requests and obligations.

What you bring

  • A university degree, preferably in Risk Management, Finance, or a similar field.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in risk management, ideally within a Dutch organization.

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (energy, telecom, banking, fintech, or insurance) or a dynamic environment.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills — able to translate complex risks into clear insights.

  • A proactive, independent, and decisive mindset, with an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Skilled in stakeholder management — you know how to build trust and influence across teams.

  • Fluent in English, and ideally comfortable communicating in Dutch.

What’s in it for you

  • A nice salary based on your experience.

  • An annual bonus based on company performance.

  • 30 paid days off per year to recharge and find inspiration.

  • Work abroad for up to 6 weeks per year (max 4 consecutive weeks, including up to 4 outside the EU).

  • A sabbatical after 3 years (1 month paid + holidays, 2 unpaid).

  • Special leave for personal milestones and an additional day for cultural or religious celebrations.

  • €850 annual learning budget, plus access to in-house Learning & Development programs.

  • A pension scheme to plan for the future.

  • €50 net monthly allowance for phone and Wi-Fi.

  • €200 one-time allowance for your home workspace.

  • A hybrid work setup: split your time between our carbon-neutral Amsterdam office and home.

  • Daily healthy, warm, and vegetarian lunches prepared by our in-house chefs.

  • Free NS Business Card if you live 10km+ from the office.

Why join Vandebron?

  • Shape and grow the risk management function at a leading green energy company.

  • Enjoy autonomy and ownership — you decide how to implement and improve frameworks.

  • Get exposure to a wide range of business areas, from strategy to operations.

  • Play a key role in keeping Vandebron future-ready amid a fast-changing energy landscape.

  • Contribute directly to our mission of making 100% green energy available, 100% of the time.

A career move that matters

This is not your typical corporate risk job — it’s an opportunity to be in charge of the risk function in a mission-driven company. You’ll gain deep exposure across all functions, advise leadership, and make a real impact on Vandebron’s growth and resilience.

What you’ll learn

  • How to apply risk management in a fast-changing, innovative environment.

  • To think on your feet and adapt frameworks to fit real situations.

  • How to balance multiple risk perspectives — financial, operational, IT, and strategic.

  • How to communicate complex topics clearly and confidently to a variety of stakeholders.

  • How the developments in the Dutch energy market shape operational risk and compliance.
