Functieomschrijving

Who we are

At Vandebron, we're transforming the energy landscape, steering away from the conventional to champion sustainability. Born in 2014, our journey began with Chapter 1, disrupting the market with a transparent platform connecting consumers directly to local, green energy producers.

Now, in Chapter 2, we are dedicated to ensuring 100% green energy availability — 100% of the time. Think smart solutions — flexible use of wind and solar farms, Smart EV Charging, and efficient energy storage. No waiting around — we actively shape a sustainable future.

Good energy, smart solutions — that’s Vandebron.

Within the Producer domain, we work on smart steering solutions that enable solar, wind, and battery assets to operate efficiently within increasingly complex energy markets and grid constraints. Our work directly supports a more flexible, reliable, and sustainable energy system.

Your impact

As an intern within Vandebron’s Producer domain, you will contribute to the development of smart steering solutions for renewable energy assets such as solar, wind, and batteries. Working within the Producer Product team, you will explore how complex asset setups can be controlled and optimized in a scalable, reliable, and future-proof way.

Your research will help shape future technical and operational decisions at Vandebron and directly support the transition to a more flexible and sustainable energy system. This internship or graduation project focuses on challenges related to the control, optimization, and integration of renewable energy assets, with a strong technical and analytical emphasis.

What you’ll do

  • Explore which hardware-software combination is required to optimize the production and consumption of multiple renewable energy asset types within grid constraints

  • Design and analyze control logic to optimize renewable energy assets, while strictly adhering to safety and operational (grid) requirements

  • Investigate the robustness of both cloud-based and local control mechanisms, with a focus on their performance across a range of operational conditions (e.g. network connection loss)

  • Investigate how additional communication protocols could support a wider range of renewable asset types

  • Assess the technical and operational impact of developing parts of the hardware-software layer in-house

  • Work closely with product, engineering, and platform teams to explore ideas and validate assumptions

  • Translate technical insights into clear documentation, recommendations, and, where possible, prototypes or proof-of-concepts

  • Present findings and conclusions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What you bring

  • You are a Master’s student in a technical or engineering field such as Computer Science, Electrical or Industrial Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related discipline

  • You have a strong interest in renewable energy, smart grids, and energy optimization

  • You bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • You are comfortable working with technical concepts concerning the hardware and software of energy systems

  • You are proactive, curious, and able to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team

  • You are available from February/March 2026 onward for a minimum internship duration of 4 months

What’s in it for you

  • An internship of 4 or 5 days per week at a sustainable and enjoyable workplace in the centre of Amsterdam, where we collaborate in person as much as possible

  • A daily free vegetarian, sustainable lunch

  • An internship allowance of €1,000 per month based on a 5-day workweek

  • Opportunities to further develop yourself through masterclasses and online trainings via our learning platform

  • Plenty of social events: from monthly mission updates and drinks to quarterly events and team outings

  • Hands-on experience at an innovative renewable energy scale-up

  • The opportunity to influence future product and technology decisions

  • Guidance and mentorship from experienced product, software, and operations specialists

  • A meaningful internship project that directly contributes to the energy transition
