Job description

Who we are

At Vandebron, we're transforming the energy landscape, steering away from the conventional to champion sustainability. Born in 2014, our journey began with Chapter 1, disrupting the market with a transparent platform connecting consumers directly to local, green energy producers.
Now, in Chapter 2, we are dedicated to ensuring 100% green energy availability, 100% of the time. Think smart solutions — flexible use of wind and solar farms, Smart EV Charging, and efficient energy storage.

No waiting around, we actively shape a sustainable future. Good energy, smart solutions — that's Vandebron.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist for Trading, you'll be a key player in our Energy Forecasting & Trading Algorithms (EFTA) team, directly impacting Vandebron's mission to accelerate the energy transition in the Netherlands. You'll be responsible for developing, automating, and optimizing the forecasting and trading algorithms that power our operations. This is a chance to use your data science expertise to tackle real-world challenges in the energy sector, directly contributing to a greener future.

What you do

  • Develop new trading algorithms to optimize the revenue of flexible assets, such as batteries, solar assets, and wind turbines.

  • Create forecasting models for short-term power and market prices, which will be used in our operational trading models.

  • Contribute to our core team products, including supply and demand forecasting.

  • Analyze, model, and interpret data to design and build analytical solutions that directly support our mission.

  • Work closely with experts in the energy market to formalize business requirements into data problems and actionable plans.

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and developers in an international environment.

  • Communicate key results and complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What you bring

  • Proven work experience in developing and deploying trading algorithms.

  • Hands-on experience creating Python algorithms for optimization trading (e.g., via MILP) and forecasting (e.g., power or market prices).

  • A proactive and collaborative mindset, with a knack for understanding business challenges and translating them into data-driven solutions.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate key results clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

  • A passion for the real-world impact of your work and a desire to help others leverage data for business objectives.

  • The eagerness to thrive in a close-knit, supportive team and make meaningful contributions from day one.

  • You are currently based in the Netherlands.

What do we offer?

  • To work towards our mission with a good dose of energy, we offer you 30 paid days off per year.

  • A company bonus based upon the results of Vandebron.

  • Work abroad for up to 6 weeks per year (max 4 consecutive weeks, including up to 4 weeks outside the EU).

  • Employees with three years of service can go on a sabbatical for up to three months (one month paid with holidays, two unpaid).

  • Request special leave for significant personal events, volunteering for SDG 11 or 13, and an additional day for religious or personal celebrations.

  • Fuel your brain with an annual €850 learning budget to grow personally and professionally.

  • Dive into new skills with access to Learning & Development workshops and programs.

  • Plan for the future with our 3rd-tier pension scheme.

  • Stay connected hassle-free with a monthly €50 net reimbursement for your phone and wifi.

  • One-time €200 net allowance to create a comfortable home workspace for our team members.

  • Split your time between our carbon-neutral Amsterdam office at the city’s heart and your home, finding the perfect balance for you.

  • Enjoy daily organic lunches prepared by our in-house cooks.
