Engineering Manager

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Manager to lead our technical teams at Vandebron.

In the past 7 years Vandebron has been a fast growing technology company in the energy sector. Our digital platform based strategy has enabled us to quickly innovate and grow our customer base. We have more growth ambitions and want our team and technology to be prepared. Therefore we are looking for an Engineering Manager that will lead, coach and inspire the software development team of 25+ members. With servant leadership you will organize a mature and effective software engineering team. This is required for Vandebron to maximize the impact on our mission: accelerating the energy transition towards 100% renewable energy!

At Vandebron we are working on software solutions on our marketplace, electric mobility and home sustainability products. In your team there are four tech leads and an architect that help you to maintain and improve our digital capabilities. Together you are responsible for the evolution of our technology stack. This stack includes programming languages like Scala and TypeScript; frameworks like Akka and React (Native); important infrastructure such as Kubernetes, Spark and ELK; and databases like Cassandra, Postgres and MongoDB.

Teams at Vandebron are organized in scrum and work in sprints, while delivering features that are planned over quarters effectively. To keep them agile and efficient, you make sure impediments are identified and do everything needed to (help) solve bottlenecks in order to optimize the developer experience. You also create impact for your team by taking an active role in our manager community and various stakeholders in all different departments.

In your role you are responsible for people growth, and well-being of your team. Much of your time goes into making sure people are enabled to contribute in an effective way. This also includes taking responsibility for recruitment and career development, as people growth is very important for Vandebron. We want to make sure our people keep learning!

As an Head of Engineering you are also working closely together with our Product Manager to streamline innovation. Together you are steering and growing our digital capabilities and bringing our platform(s) to the next level.

What does the job entail?

  • You are responsible for all engineering activities within the various scrum teams (25+ engineers).

  • You are responsible for the execution and optimization of the technical strategy and capabilities and you are the owner of the development and release cycle.

  • You support your team in their personal development to grow their skills and experience, e.a. with regular one-on-one meetings.

  • Together with the recruitment team you are responsible for the growth of your team and interview and select qualitative new hires, while keeping a culture of high-standard engineering.

  • You are responsible for daily operations of our platform(s).

  • You are responsible for the teams of engineering, which include full-stack, frontend, salesforce and automated testing experts.

  • You enable people to take responsibility and ownership over our architecture and code quality.

  • You have a clear understanding on how a modern organization can thrive as a technology company and are ready to use your experience to create an impact!

Job requirements

What is your profile?

  • You have a university degree and up to 7 years of relevant experience

  • You have experience in both team leadership (including individual coaching) and strategic leadership with a strong vision on technology; You know how to balance your people and technical skills in an effective way to empower your team and deliver results.

  • You are familiar with the Agile way of working and as the manager of the team you are responsible for ensuring that this Agile way of working runs smoothly.

  • You have experience in keeping infrastructure highly available and if unforeseen situations occur you are able manage the incident process.

  • You have detailed knowledge of one or more areas showcasing your technical skill set.

  • You are well organized, know how to prioritize and able to keep overview in a dynamic and complex environment.

  • You have good communication skills and know how to manage relevant stakeholders.

  • You are motivated for the mission of Vandebron.
